THE MAITLAND GAOL EPISODE
Maitland Gaol holds the record of the longest serving Prison in Australia, having been in continual use for 150 years.
In this Episode, we expose the never before told stories of life in one of Australia’s hardest prisons.

THE LONG BAY GAOL EPISODE

Opened in 1909, the notorious Long Bay Prison Complex has 6 prisons on site housing over 1200 inmates. It is more like a city, housing the State’s most infamous inmates in it’s long and storied history

THE KATINGAL EPISODE
In the 1970’s, Australia opened it’s first ‘Supermax’ Prison. Designed to deprive inmates of any sense of the outside world, it was described by it’s detractors as an ‘electronic zoo’. Conditions were atrocious. Prisoners hated it, and Prison Officers loved it.

For as long as there’s been prisons, inmates have tried to escape. We tell the stories of the unbelievable escapes that have happened from NSW prisons over the years. Eyewitness accounts from Officers that were there.

In the 1980’s, the AIDS epidemic took hold of the world.
Being HIV positive in prison was a dangerous game. Inmates and Officers were living in fear.
This Episode tells the never before heard, heartbreaking story of working in the AIDS Unit.

At Long Bay, there is a prison within a prison - The Acute Crisis Management Unit. It is here that inmates with self harm issues are housed. This episode explores the horrific tales of what happens in the A.C.M.U.

Prison Officers always have to be aware of their surroundings. You can have all the training in the world, but in Prison, you never know what's going to happen. Sometimes things just go bad!

John Killick has spent more than 30 years behind bars, with a criminal history spanning more than six decades.
Bank robber. Gambler. Prison escapee. And the man at the centre of one of the most daring prison escapes in Australian history.
In Part One of this extensive interview, John sits down with Prison Chronicles to tell his story in his own words. He talks about his early life, his introduction to crime, bank robberies and gambling, his years inside Australian prisons, the escapes, and some of the notorious criminals and extraordinary characters he encountered along the way.
It is a first hand account of a life spent on both sides of the prison wall, and a journey through more than half a century of Australian criminal and prison history.

In Part Two of this extensive interview, John continues his remarkable story, taking Prison Chronicles deeper into his years inside some of Australia's toughest prisons and the people he encountered along the way.
John talks about life inside Goulburn during one of the prison's most violent periods, his encounters with notorious inmates including Ivan Milat, the realities of prison life, and the relationships and experiences that shaped his years behind the walls.
He also tells the extraordinary story of Lucy Dudko and the 1999 helicopter escape from Silverwater Prison, one of the most audacious prison escapes in Australian history, and what happened after the helicopter touched down.
